Now you can read Lage Raho Munna Bhai

Three years after it released to much applause and became a huge blockbuster, Lage Raho Munna Bhai's screenplay is now available on stands.

Director Rajkumar Hirani, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and cast members Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan launched the screenplay on Monday, giving audiences a better feel of the film.

We present an excerpt from the book. Watch the video to see the scene play out.

Scene: Dhobi Ghat - Night

At the Dhobi Ghat, Munna sits on a wooden plank that's placed over the water. His legs dangle in the water. It is raining heavily and Munna is soaked. He is quiet and looks defeated. Circuit stands in front of him with an umbrella. He speaks remorsefully.

Circuit: Sorry, Bhai. Bhai, apne se mistake ho gaya, Bhai. Apne ko phone karna chaahiye tha tumko. Bhai, apun bola tumko disturb kaiko karega? Chhota sa kaam hai, apun hai na kaam sambhalne ke liye.

Munna does not respond, shattered.

Circuit: Bhai, mood kyun kharaab karta hai, Bhai?

Munna looks up, angry and intense.

Circuit: Jaane doh na abhi. (Assures) Bhai, main samajhaayega, bhabhi ko samajhaayega. Koi tension nahin, Bhai. Aap fikr mat...

Suddenly, Munna gets up and slaps Circuit hard on the face. The umbrella falls. Munna grabs Circuit by his collar and yells.

Munna: Kya samajhaayega usse? Kya samajhaayega usse? Ki apun ek bhai hai? Yeh samajhaayega?

Munna shoves Circuit. He falls down.

Munna: Ek kaam bhi theek se nahin kar sakta, saala!

Munna turns and walks away, wading through water, towards his house. The fallen umbrella is whisked away by the strong breeze. Circuit gets up slowly, nursing his cheek. He just stands there shell-shocked and sobs.

Dissolve to Munna's house:

Early morning light filters in through the blinds of a window. Outside the window, the dhobis are washing clothes at the water tank. Munna looks drained. He chants with a choked throat and broken voice.

Munna: Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit Paavan Seeta Ram...

Mahatma Gandhi: Kaise ho, Bhai?

Munna opens his eyes. They are brimming with tears. He sees Bapu sitting at the other end of the room, a benign smile on his face.

Mahatma Gandhi: Bada waqt lagaaya bulane mein?

Munna pleads with folded hands.

Munna: Dekho, Bapu, aaj life mein first time apun aisa fasela hai. Kuch bhi idea nikal kar apun ko bacha lo abhi.

Mahatma Gandhi: Ek tarkeeb hai.

Munna looks up, hopeful.

Munna: Kya?

Mahatma Gandhi: Lucky ki bachchi ko uttha lao. Aur phir uss se sauda karo. Makaan khaalikar de, aur bachchi ko le jaye.

Munna wipes his tears, a slight smile on his lips.

Munna: Yeh idea toh apun ne kal raat ko hee reject kar dala.

Mahatma Gandhi: Phir utaar do doh-chaar goliyan Lucky ke seene mein.

Munna: Aye, Bapu, apun ke saath kuch khunnas hai kya? Kaiyko sab khudkushi wale idea de rahela hai?

Bapu smiles.

Mahatma Gandhi: Yeh mere nahin, tumhare hee idea hain, beta. Aaj tak yehi toh karte aaye ho. Mere raste pe toh tum chaloge nahin. Phir bol ke kya faayada, beta?

Munna walks up, sits next to Bapu.

Munna: Theek hai, theek hai, Bapu, chalo bolo na apna raasta bolo. Apun yeh bhi try karke dekhta hai.

Bapu laughs and shakes his heads.

Mahatma Gandhi: Nahin hoga tumse.

Munna: Arre kaise nahin hoga, Bapu? Bahut daring hai apun mein.

Mahatma Gandhi: Mera raasta aasaan nahin hai. Par jeet pakki hai.

Munna: Bangla milega na?

Mahatma Gandhi: Vachan deta hoon.

Munna: Woh Jhanvi apun ko chhodd ke nahin jayegi na?

Mahatma Gandhi: Umar bhar garv se tumhare saath chalegi.

Munna seems relieved.

Munna: Tumko itna confidence hai toh bolo kya karne ka hai?

Mahatma Gandhi: Maafi mango.

Munna turns to Bapu, confused.

Munna: Maafi? Kis se?

Scene: Jetty - later

On the quay side, Circuit sits by himself, disheartened and depressed. Munna and Bapu walk towards him.

Munna: Yeh maafi maangna zaroori hai kya?

Mahatma Gandhi: Dekhna chaahta hoon tum mein kitni himmat hai.

Munna: Bole toh?

Mahatma Gandhi: Chaanta maarna aasaan hai. Maafi maangne ke liye himmat chhahiye, beta. Yeh kaayaron ka kaam nahin hai. Jao,beta!

Munna looks at Circuit sitting on the edge of the jetty near the sea. He walks towards him with heavy steps. He comes closer and stands looking at the sea, his back towards Circuit. He glances at Circuit, then turns away, unable to face him.

Munna: Idhar kya kar rela hai?

Circuit stands up instantly. Pretends that everything is all right.

Circuit: Ku ku kuch nahi, Bhai. Woh aaj subah se maa ka yaad aa raha tha, toh toh apun yahan aake baith gaya.

His back towards Circuit, Munna continues talking.

Munna: Apun ko tere ko kuch bolne ka hai.

Circuit: Haan, haan Bhai, bolo na!

Munna: Yeh mat soch ki apun peeyela hai.

Circuit: Kya hua, Bhai?

Munna feels awkward.

Munna: Udhar turn ho jaa. Apun ki aankh mein mat dekh.

Circuit turns his back to Munna, who glances sideways to confirm that Circuit is not looking. Munna gathers his courage.

Munna: Apun ko tere ko sorry bolne ka hai. Akhi raat soya nahin apun. Sab purana memories, woh bheje mein ghoom rahela tha. Yaad hai, jab apun ko bullet laga tha payt mein...

Circuit begins to cry.

Munna: Neend nahin aata tha full night. Apun ko bola ki...

Munna controls his tears.

Munna: Maa ka yaad aata hai, tu ne saala apun ka sar le kar gode mein dala...

Circuit sobs.

Munna: Aur lori sunaya apun ko. Aur saala apun ne hee haath utthaya tere pe!

Circuit and Munna, are both crying. Munna wipes the tears off his face.

Munna: Apun bhi yedda hai saala, raat ko teen baje tere ko bola ki apun ko Chinese khaane ka hai. Aur tu woh five star mein jaa kar woh cheeni ko uttha ke leke aaya. Kya hakka noodle banaaya na usne!

They both laugh, tears rolling down their face.

Munna: Aur apun ne tere pe haath utthaya? Maaf kar de na, yaar.

Circuit is overwhelmed.

Circuit: Yeh sab bolne ka kya zaroorat hai, Bhai?

Hearing Circuit's choked voice, Munna turns around and reaches out to him. Face to face, they finally embrace.

Munna: Aye sorry bola na!

Munna waves at Bapu, who is at a distance. Munna shouts, excited.

Munna: Aye Bapu, thank you, Bapu! Dil halka ho gaya apun ka. Bol abhi kya karne ka hai?

Mahatma Gandhi: Lucky ko pyar se samjhana hai.

Munna: Yeh kaam zara mushkil hai.

Bapu smiles, coolly.

Mahatma Gandhi: Tension nahin lene ka. Bapu hai na.
