Shaikh Ayaz in Mumbai
Not only kids and adults but people of all age and range love speeding cars in the movies. There have been instances when these fascinating wheels have turned out to be the real stars in films which they appear. Both Bollywood and Hollywood realised the value of cars rather early and have used them to remarkable commercial success.
With Cars 2 coming up this week, we decided to look beyond the animated cars, and look at the real thing. Check out these drool-worthy cars in the movies.
Aston Martin DBS in Casino Royale
Bond, James Bond does it in style. A perpetual beneficiary of new-age gadgets, 007 has famously used the swankiest cars in movie history. Car companies vie against one another to be driven by the charming spy. In Casino Royale, Daniel Craig and Aston Martin DBS both made their respective debuts; Craig as Bond and the latter on the roads.
An upgraded version of the previous Aston Martin driven by other Bonds, Aston Martin DBS combines the beauty of a road car with the engine of a race car. When the film released, both the debutants were swamped with wows: while Craig won praise for his acting, Aston Martin DBS broke a new speed record!
BMW 6-Series in Mission Impossible 4
Image: BMW 6-SeriesThe car was in Mumbai when the unit was shooting a portion here and it instantly became a topic of hot discussion. Like always, the car will be first used and then abused; to put it simply, Tom will use it for chase sequences all over the world and will smash them up.
It is believed that the superstar was allowed a private peek into the car at BMW's headquarters in Munich, Germany.
Koenigsegg CCX in Fast Five
Image: A still from Fast FiveIt can go up to 250 mph and was said to be driven to its fullest speed in Fast Five. That's not all, the film is a treat for car enthusiasts. Just look at the other wheels it features: Lexus LFA, Nissan 370Z, Dodge Challenger and Porsche GT3.
Audi A8 in Transporter 3
Image: A still from Transporter 3It indeed was, gush car aficionados. For one, it has an all-aluminium W-12 engine, luxury amenities and FlexRay technology. It's so sturdy that it could withstand some of the most difficult sequences, including racing off a bridge straight into water.
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 in The Dark Knight
Image: A still from The Dark KnightLamborghini offered three LP640s to the makers of which one was totally smashed up. Great stunts were performed on this car in Chicago and so happy was director Christopher Nolan that it seems the relationship between Bruce and Lamborghini is here to stay.
Audi R8 V10 Spyder in Iron Man 2
Image: A still from Iron Man 2Iron Man has a cool equation with Audi, for the Audi R8 was used in the first flick. This high performance sports version has 525 horsepower, 5.2-liter V10 and exotic exterior. What more can Tony Stark ask for?
Mini Coopers in The Italian Job
Image: A still from The Italian JobEvery scene featuring the minis are a rage to date, including their brisk navigation through the narrow lanes of Turin, Italy. With the upgrade in technology, the minis of The Italian Job may look stale but when first used, they became massively popular and have since become inseparable from the film.
Convertible Buick in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Image: A still from Zindagi Na Milegi DobaraHrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan drive around on a sky-blue convertible Buick in the picturesque landscape of Spanish countryside. The trio hit the road in the Buick and spent considerable time driving it around. The car is now being used for promotional campaign and word is that it will be brought back to India.
Hummer in Shaitan
Image: A still from ShaitanThe SUV is the Shaitan gang's accomplice in their daily night-outs. The Hummer is more than a presence in Shaitan and the turn of events that take place can be in some way attributed to it. No wonder, the car replaced the film's cast as its calling card, with an entire publicity blitzkrieg planned around it.
Porsche in Race
Image: A still from RaceThe Abbas-Mustan film is full of car chases (picked off Hollywood films, doubtless). There's one towards the end in which Saif challenges his brother (played by Akshaye Khanna) to a car race.
