Bollywood mourns Bhupen Hazarika's demise

The whole nation grieved as the news of singing legend Bhupen Hazarika's death spread on Saturday. The 86-year-old singer/composer died on Saturday because of multiple-organ failure. While his body is to be cremated tomorrow, Bollywood stars tweeted their final tribute for the legendary musician.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: 'Bhupen Hazarika passes away ! A musician of many talents and what a voice .. prayers and condolences !!'

Shreya Ghoshal wrote: 'Sorry sad to hear abt Bhupen Hazarika Ji. Another legend lost. His voice and songs will be alive in our hearts forever. Rest in peace.'

Mahesh Bhatt tweeted: 'Bhupen Hazrika was a giant among giants. He was much more than a music icon. He was a social reformer with the heart of a child.'

Madhur Bhandarkar was also sad to hear the news. 'Sad to hear the demise of legendary music maestro BHUPEN HAZARIKA, RIP !!!' he updated.

Riteish Deshmukh wrote: 'RIP SIR- a big loss to all music lovers.'

Anupam Kher also tweeted: 'Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's music was unusual and haunting and so was his singing. Great person. Warm, compassionate and helpful. Will miss him.'

Shabana Azmi wrote: 'Sorry to learn about bhupen hazarika. His was a unique voice and he wrote lyrics using Assam's folk music as an instrument of social change..'

Singer Shantanu Mukherji couldn't believe the news. 'Just landed into Mumbai and got the terrible news of Bhupen Da... He was so profound and yet so simple..Never imposing.. Fondest memories..' he updated.

A sad year for music lovers

2011 has been a sad year for music lovers. The year witnessed the demise of noted musicians like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Jagjit Singh and Bhupen Hazarika.

Akshay Kumar pointed out: 'After Jagjit Singh, India has lost another musical wonder, RIP Bhupen Hazarika. The man who gave us 'Dil Hoom Hoom Kare' from Rudaali, truly our hearts recite this song with grief today.'

Farhan Akhtar, on the other hand, recounted his meetings with the late legend. 'RIP Bhupen Hazarika. Had the privilege to have met him on numerous occasions and was always impressed by his modest and sensitive nature,' he tweeted.

Daman team remembers BhupenDa

Upon hearing the news of Hazarika's death, the cast and crew of Daman, for which he had composed music, tweeted their tributes.

Raima Sen wrote: 'R.I.P Bhupenda..worked with him and kalpana lajmi in my second film...'

Raveena Tandon tweeted: 'Bhupen Hazarika passes away.. Indias Rich Culture and Heritage of Art and Music loses another Gem. Rest in Peace Bhupen Da..'

Director Onir, who started his career in Bollywood with Daman reminisced his fond memories. 'Very sad to hear about the demise of Bhupen Da .Had started my career in Hindi Film Industry workin in DAMAN with Kalpana Lajmi n Bhupen Da. Remember Bhupen Da for his warmth and love and the incredible voice and melody .will remember him with love. worked with BhupenDa for the music of Daman n his music album GANGA Remember our love for good food N THE Lunches N Dinners We had TOGETHER,' he wrote.

Sanjay Suri tweeted: 'Very very Sad to hear about Dr Bhupen Hazarika...spent some wonderful time with him during Daman.'

Lata Mangeshkar pays tribute to Hazarika
