Bollywood A-listers failing

The Bollywood business works by selling superstar brands. But what when these brands perform below expectations? Here's a look at superstars who are part of Bollywood's power league and are yet failing miserably at the box office:

Rani Mukherji

Rani's last hit was way back in 2006, with Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Since then there's been Baabul, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Saawariya, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and now Dil Bole Hadippa.

Even though she seems commited to experiment, dressing as a Sardar and wearing a bikini -- thankfully in different scenes --, it wasn't enough to break the jinx.

Akshay Kumar

How times change.

From being the industry's highest paid actor, Kumar is suddenly a liability with films like Jumbo, Chandni Chowk to China and 8x10 Tasveer flopping at the box office, with Kambakkht Ishq barely making money and being the worst reviewed film of the year. Akshay Kumar needs hits, and he needs them bigtime.

Abhishek Bachchan

Sure, Abhishek had a hit last year with Dostana -- but everyone knows that was John Abraham's hit.

Bachchan himself has been floundering for a while, his solo films like Drona and Delhi 6 not at all making a mark at the box office. He isn't strictly A-list, but this string of flops is making that surname look pretty sorry.

Imran Khan

It seems unfair to throw Imran into the deep end so soon. After all he's only had one hit with his first film, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, and it's only natural for the young man to have some teething trouble.

But his Kidnap and Luck tanked without a trace and, at a time when everyone's only allowed limited flops, he needs a seriously big success.
