Stars condemned the gang-rape of a young woman on a moving bus in Delhi, and sought strict action against the criminals. Here's what they said:
Gul Panag: 'And Delhi folks get upset when someone says Delhi is unsafe for women. Question is who are these people who make it unsafe? What kind of family back grounds do rapists come from? What kind of education have they had? What kind of Law allows them to get away?'
Ayesha Takia Azmi: 'Amazing men and women out on the streets in delhi protesting against all this n asking for justice.. Thankful for such people! I hope there is the strictest punishment given to these unforgivable culprits. Watching Jaya aunty speak on news is inspiring.. N gives hope. All of us must stand together n fight against such crimes.'
Sandhya Mridul: 'Delhi has always been abusive towards women..It was a matter of time that it became physical..sadly it permeates thru society rich or poor! Sadly I think of Jessica today..she died coz she never put up with that shit & always fought..it's a crime for women to have a voice there!'
Kritika Kamra: "Law is lax,509 which deals wid verbal sexual harassment is non-cognisable, 354 deals wid physical abuse is bailable" no respect for women!! A city as beautiful as Delhi is turning into a nightmare for women!!It happened at 9.15pm in a bus on the busy roads of the capital! Shocking. Why are their faces covered??!! They STRIPPED the victims and threw them after the horrendous crime!!'
Arjun Rampal: 'New set of laws and more severe punishments are required for these kind of criminals. Rapist should be publicly flogged. No more tolerance.'
Raveena Tandon: 'Rapists and murderers are out on bail and roaming scotfree..sometimes also given tickets to political parties..hang rapists nd murderers'
Pooja Bedi: 'Delhi Girl gangraped in moving bus by 6 men thrown on roadside! Sheila dixit pledges strong action! Can GOVT STOP Pledging and SHOW action?'
Farhan Akhtar: 'Yes we can stoop lower as a people. The Delhi bus gang rape is proof of that. Is justice asleep? I believe swift and severe punishment is the only deterrent. These deviants are not afraid of consequence as it comes too little too late.'
Pritish Nandy: 'The way we respond to rape cases disgusts me. All we have to offer is cliches. What we need is exemplary and brutal punishment.'
Juhi Chawla: 'My heart goes out to the little girl & her family. I hope those men are found & publicly punished for this heinous act. Sometimes I wish our laws were as simple & strict as tooth for tooth & an eye for an eye. Crimes like this wouldn't happen!'
