The year saw its share of surprise hits so far. In the second part of the half-yearly box office analysis, trade pundit Vinod Mirani lists the films that bombed, in alphabetical order.

Kites

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Babara Mori, Kangna Ranaut
Directed by: Anurag Basu

We barely get to see Hrithik Roshan often at the marquee these days. So his film Kites was expected to be a huge summer blockbuster. Unfortunately, it bombed.

Directed by Anurag Basu (who has made hit films like Murder, Gangster and Life In A Metro), Kites had some beautiful locales, and a stunning-looking lead cast in Hrithik and Barbara Mori. But most of the film was in Spanish and English, leaving the Hindi-speaking audience feeling cheated.

Paathshala

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia Azmi, Nana Patekar
Directed by: Milind Ukey

Paathshala deals with the evils of the education system, but we had just seen a better version in Taare Zameen Par. The film had its heart in the right place but it is too outdated and dull. The Shahid-starrer looks more like a docudrama.

Raavan

Cast: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vikram, Govinda
Directed by: Mani Ratnam

No one expected Raavan to flop as Mani Ratnam's films usually do well at the box office. The film was visually stunning and saw some great performances but failed largely because of its weak screenplay.

Right Yaaa Wrong

Cast: Sunny Deol, Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Eesha Koppikar
Directed by: Neeraj Pathak

Sunny Deol has not had a hit in a long time, and it would have been nice for his career had this film worked.

Unfortunately, Right Yaaa Wrong was too preachy, and failed to hold the audience's attention.

Teen Patti

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, R Madhavan, Ben Kingsley, Dhruv Ganesh, Siddharth Kher, Shraddha Kapoor, Vaibhav Talwar
Directed by: Leena Yadav

Director Leena Yadav managed to land great actors like Ben Kingsley and Amitabh Bachchan. But she could not make the most of them, and made a poor film.
