AbRam, Azad, Akira: The curious case of Bollywood baby names

You can trust Bollywood folks to do things in their own quirky style.

Shah Rukh Khan, who recently welcomed a baby boy into his family of four, has named the new bundle of joy AbRam. 

The curiosuly spelt name, the internet tells us, is of Hebrew origin and means the exalted father.

While we wait for SRK to reveal exactly why he chose such an unusual name and spelling for this third offspring, here's a look at other celebrity parents who took the less-trodden path when it came to naming their babies.

Azad Rao Khan

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, who had a surrogate baby boy last December, named him Azad -- after Khan's great granduncle Abul Kalam Azad -- followed by their respective surnames.

Shakya and Akira

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and hairstylist wife Adhuna have two daughters named Shakya and Akira.

While the inspiration behind the name Shakya remains undisclosed, Farhan apparently chose Akira for his younger daughter's name after his favourite director Akira Kurusawa.

Nitara Khanna Bhatia

Joining the curious club are Akshay Kumar and wife Twinkle Khanna, who welcomed their second child -- a baby girl -- last September, who they named Nitara Khanna Bhatia. She was named after her maternal grandfather Rajesh Khanna, who passed away earlier that year. 

Hrehaan and Hridaan Roshan

With their two adorable boys Hrehaan and Hridaan, star couple Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan decided to take the legacy of his phonetically unsually name forward.

Zeke Zidaan and Zene Zoe Warsi

Arshad Warsi and his Roman Catholic wife Maria Goretti have chosen somewhat religiously ambivalent and alliterative names for their kids.

While the son is called Zeke Zidaan, the star daughter is known as Zene Zoe.

Incidentally, Zeke Zidaan's name has nothing to do with (soccer star) Zinedine Zidaan, Arshad once clarified.

Haroon Shorey

Actor couple Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma's toddler son has been named Haroon, which means hope in Sanskrit.

 

Also, as Konkona says, "(Salman) Rushdie's Haroun and the Sea of Stories is a book that we both read. So my son's name is inspired from that book. There, Haroun is a 12-year-old boy adventurer."

Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapoor

Karisma Kapoor's daughter is named Samaira, which means Greek goddess of beauty in Latin. Her son is named Kiaan Raj Kapoor. Kian means grace of God.

 

Czar, Diva and Anya

Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder have named their adorable triplets Czar, Diva and Anya.

Shahran and Iqra

Sanjay and Maanyata Dutt's light-eyed twins go by the names Shahran and Iqra, derived from Urdu. 

 

Rasha and Ranbir

Raveena Tandon's kids are Rasha and Ranbir.

Their names have their origins from Lord Shiva. Rasha’s complete name is Rashavishakha -- Vishakha means Lord Shiva. Rasha also means the first drops of rain.

Ranbir’s full name is Ranbirvardhan, which implies Lord Shiva is the war hero.

Zen and Kai

Actress Tara Sharma, who is married to Rupak Saluja of Bang Bang Films, has two sons named Zen and Kai.

Incidentally, Zen was named after Tara's father, playwright Pratap Sharma's play called Zen Katha.
