Trailer: Tanhaji looks impressive but...

The Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior trailer is pretty good and while it could have been crisper and more hard-hitting, the film will probably make up for it when it releases on January 10, feels Namrata Thakker.

The trailer of Ajay Devgn’s dream project Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is out and though the period drama looks impressive, it doesn’t hit the ball out of the park.

Starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kajol, Jagapathi Babu, Sharad Kelkar and Luke Kenny in lead roles, the film is based on the life of Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusare.

The trailer looks grand and the visuals are stunning. Kudos to the cinematographer and the VFX team.

The three-minute trailer introduces us to Tanhaji, played by Ajay Devgn, and his family.

And his entry is epic.

While Ajay is a bonafide action superstar, his look in the film is more ordinary than hero-like.

We don’t see him flexing his muscles or doing slick action sequences. Then again, Tanhaji isn’t Singham.

Ajay has some solid dialogues and he stands out in most sequences.

But it is Saif Ali Khan who steals the show.

His villainous avatar will leave you wanting for more.

He makes a powerful impact with his character, Udhay Bhan and will provide stiff competition to Ranveer Singh’s portrayal as Khilji in Padmaavat

It is also a treat to watch him share the space with Ajay once again after Omkara. Their scenes together will probably be whistle-worthy.

We also get to see Kajol as Tanhaji’s wife, Savitribai Malusare.

She looks gorgeous in the her Maharashtrian avatar, and it will be nice to see her opposite her husband.

Composers Ajay-Atul do a good job in bringing out the Marathi flavour through their work. The music adds that extra zing and makes the trailer more appealing.
