The Whistleblower is definitely worth watching, recommends Namrata Thakker.

After Scam 1992, SonyLIV returns with yet another real-life, inspired story, which is equally engrossing and entertaining.

Based on the infamous Vyapam scam which shook the nation in 2013, The Whistleblower follows the story of an intern doctor who gets embroiled in a medical racket.

Dr Sanket Bhadoria (Ritwik Bhowmik) is a final year medical student, interning at the Reliable hospital in Bhopal. Since the hospital is owned by his father Dr Ashwin Bhadoria (Sachin Khedekar), Sanket lives his life carefree without worrying about any repercussions.

He parties, he cheats on his girlfriend and yet the adrenaline rush isn't enough for him. So Sanket decides to do something more adventurous.

That's when he meets Jairaj Jatav (Ravi Kishan), who runs a coaching centre for medical entrance examinations.

But in reality, he bribes government officials and helps undeserving candidates pass the medical entrance exam with flying colours.

Sanket joins hands with him and gives entrance exam by impersonating someone else. He loves the thrill and becomes a part of the scam without his father's knowledge, who is very well respected in the medical fraternity.

But everything changes when Ashwin Bhadoria finds out what's actually happening in his hospital-cum-college and other private colleges. He also learns about his son being a part of the scam and is determined to do the right thing.

Just when Ashwin starts uncovering the truth, he is set ablaze and his death is labelled as suicide.

Only after losing his father does Sanket realise the need to expose everyone involved in the racket.

But he's unaware how deep-rooted the corruption is and how many big players are involved in the scam, including police officers and politicians.

Nonetheless, Sanket is desperate for revenge and sets out to unravel the truth, along with his girlfriend Pragya (Ankita Sharma) and journalist Anup (Ashish Verma).

From the very first episode, the story pulls you in and keeps you hooked till the end.

There's hardly any room for boredom as the makers have kept the script very tight.

Apart from an engaging storyline, the show delivers in every department.

The execution is slick and most of the actors, whether lead or supporting, manage to do full justice to their characters.

Ritwik Bhowmik stands out and packs a solid punch as a medical student, who is a brat initially but eventually becomes the whistleblower.

You hate him, you like him and then you root for him. That's how good he's with his performance.

Ankita Sharma lends good support and Ashish Verma's earnest performance is endearing and doesn't go unnoticed.

Ravi Kishan, as the sly baddie, is equally good. He doesn't yell or throw around his weight and yet his deceitful nature is very apparent because of his cocky grin.

It's actually good to see him on screen in such a meaty role.

Sachin Khedekar doesn't get much screen-time and that's a let down. Last year, he had starred in Halahal which was loosely based on the Vyapam scam and the actor was a visual delight in the film alongside Barun Sobti.

Directed by Manoj Pillai, this crime drama is definitely worth watching.

Ritwik carries the show on his able shoulders and how! The Whistleblower indeed belongs to him.

The Whistleblower is streaming on SonyLIV.
