The title of the film is misleading because the film is certainly not a laugh riot as the title suggests, and the dragging first half may well make the viewers lose their patience. But for the entertaining second half, Thamaashegaagi can be passed off as yet another also-ran film.
Thamaashegaagi looks like a montage of many films seen before, with director Kodlu Ramakrishna failing to contribute anything worthwhile to the project to make it really interesting.
Mohan (Mohan) and Rajesh (Rajesh) are good friends, and are both married and enjoy a good family life. But both have a weakness for young girls. They tell lies to their wives (Sudharani and Vaibhavi) who get suspicious. The wives then decide to engage two youngsters, Anil (Anirudhdh) and Shivu (Komal), to teach their husbands a lesson by pretending to be in love with them.
In reply, the jealous husbands think of plans to unravel the mystery behind their wives' new love life. What happens next makes up the rest of the film.
Anirudhdh proves that he has oodles of talent. Komal fits in his role perfectly while Mohan does both his roles (writer and actor) with ease. Sudharani is good, but Vaishnavi fails to impress. It is time Rekha learns something about acting.
The technical work in Thamaashegaagi is just ordinary, though music director Patnayak's background score is okay.
Despite all these flaws, the film has some enjoyable moments.
