Review: Ragini MMS 2 music is a pleasant surprise

Sunny Leone's Ragini MMS 2 may get a good head-start in the theatres, thanks to its good music, writes Joginder Tuteja.

Ragini MMS was largely a song-less affair, with only remixes of old songs like Raat Akeli Hai and You Are My Chicken Fry being featured.

A different strategy has been adopted for the film's sequel, which is much bigger in scale, presentation, and of course, cast.

The album starts with Meet Brothers' Anjjan singing the fiery Kumaar written Baby Doll. The song has chartbuster written all over it.

The Punjab-Hindi-English number has some naughty lyrics complementing Sunny Leone's presence in the film. It is also special due to Kanika Kapoor’s unique singing style.

With Meet Brothers' Anjjan giving her good support behind the mike, Kanika has good fun making her debut in Bollywood.

The remix version further ensures that Baby Doll will enjoy a long shelf life.

Sunny heats things up at the very outset and further features in Yo Yo Honey Singh's Chaar Botal Vodka, another hit number.

With some catchy beats, this Honey Singh number is the kind that is guaranteed to play in loop at clubs and pubs. The lyrics by Ustad Bhagdarh Ali Khan may seem controversial to some, since they glorify alcohol.

Pranay Rijia, who has always delivered whenever given an opportunity (Raaz - The Mystery Continues, Blood Money),

gets another big platform here.

He composes the love song Maine Khud Ko, a soothing number on the lines of Jiya Dhadak Dhadak (from Kalyug). Kumaar's lyrics ensure that the romantic feel of the song is evident throughout.

Mustafa Zahid and Kshitij Tarey get a version each to sing and do extremely well in their respective stints.

Last to arrive is Lori of Death, composed by Chirantan Bhatt, who is a regular with Vikram Bhatt.

The haunting lullaby is the first of its kind, courtesy Manoj Yadav's lyrics that have lines like So ja warna daayan kaat khayeg and Ajgar nigal jaayega.

With newcomer Arpita Chakraborty doing well behind the mike in her husky voice, this one perfectly matches the film's narrative. One can expect a chilling mood to be created during its play on screen.

The music of Ragini MMS 2 is a pleasant surprise because while one expects a haunting number (Lori of Death) and a love track (Maine Khud Ko), which is mandatory in a horror movie, there are also a couple of hardcore dance numbers (Baby Doll, Chaar Botal Vodka) that add a good commercial twist to the tale.

As a collective effort, the music should ensure that Sunny Leone's film gets a good head-start on its release in theatres.
