Review: London Bridge is a sloppy love story

London Bridge is an usual romance between a poor guy who has come up the hard way and a rich princess who falls for him, but ultimately the guy settles for the poor damsel in distress, writes Paresh C Palicha. 

Prithviraj has made a habit of playing characters with grey shades. His new film London Bridge, promised a heavily textured character and killer looks to go with it. But the film, turns out to be a sloppy story of a man who has to make a choice between two women.

Directed by Anil C Menon (who has made low-brow action thrillers till now) and the story written by Jinu Abraham (of Masters fame), the film shows Vijay Das (Prithviraj), a heartless young businessman who has faces a lot of difficulties to survive in London. He locks horns with C S Nambiar (Pratap Pothen), without realising how powerful he is.

Nambiar, instead of threatening Vijay, offers an alliance with his daughter Pavithra (Andrea Jeremiah), the sole heiress of his empire.

Pavithra is philanthropic by nature. Vijay tries hard to impress her on the day they spend time together, by pretending to like her.

After he drops Pavithra home, Vijay crashes into Merin (Nanditha Raj) in his swanky car while she is crossing the road and almost kills her. On Pavithra’s insistence, he follows Merin to the hospital and waits for some relative to appear. Merin had just landed in London that afternoon to join a hospital as a nurse and the accident has put her employment in jeopardy. She will be in hospital for a couple of weeks and her right hand is permanently deformed. 

Vijay sees helping Merin as an opportunity to impress Pavithra further. He succeeds and Pavithra tells her father that she is ready to marry Vijay.

It is the usual romance between a poor guy who has come up the hard way and a rich princess who falls for him, but ultimately the guy settles for the poor damsel in distress.

This about sums up the film, with picturesque shots of London and the countryside adding some interest.

The supporting cast of Pratap Pothen, Lena and Mukesh has to do very little.

Prithviraj tries to look cool with his bleached hair and tanned skin and does it successfully.

Andrea and Nanditha get equal share as the two leading ladies, but, there is hardly anything that puts stress on their acting ability.

 All in all, London Bridge is a sloppy love story.
