Much was expected from the Kannada film Gunna, in which scriptwriter Dwarki makes a directorial debut.
Dwarki has worked with popular theatre groups and had shown some spark in writing the story of the Darshan starrer, Bhagwan, produced by S R Govindoo. Govindoo decided to make Dwarki a director under his banner, Tanu Chitra.
Though Dwarki has not lived up to expectations, his debut venture cannot be dismissed outright.
Following the current trend, Dwarki has tried to 'remix' sequences of popular non-Kannada films in Gunna.

Gunna
is the story of Shambhu (Mayur Patel), who pools all
Chaitra does not reciprocate his feelings.
Sharma, who has seen Patel solving people's problems, decides to get him to help him woo Chaitra. Shambhu accepts this offer, in return for money for his orphanage.
But Shambhu gets attracted to Chaitra instead. Who finally wins her hand forms the rest of the story.
Mayur proved his worth as an actor in his debut, Mani, but made wrong choices thereafter. In Gunna, he looks good in some sequences. Raghu shines as a comical villain. But in some scenes, he looks repetitive. Chaitra looks glamorous, and it's time such a talented actress got a good break.
Sudeep's guest appearance, for a fight and dance sequence, seems a gimmick to woo audiences.
Mahesh's music is ordinary and Sundaranath Suvarna's camera work is average.
Dwarki could have made the script more racy. He has lost a good opportunity to make Gunna enjoyable.
