Slum Bala directed by Sumana Kiththoor and written by Agni Sridhar is different from the gangster films made in Kannada -- in a good way. The movie captures our attention for it's realistic and refined depiction of an underworld hireling.
Kudos goes to writer-journalist Agni Sridhar (script and dialogue writer of the award-winning film Aa Dinagarlu) for a realistic script. The story of the film is based on his popular book Aa Dinagalu which talks about a gangster called Vinayak Bala.
Slum Bala shakes your conscience and sets you thinking about the cruel world of politician-police-criminal nexus that has become the bane of civilized society. The story is strong and the dialogues written by Agni Sridhar are hard hitting and effective.
Sumana Kiththoor, who makes her directorial debut with this film, has been able to get the best artists and also effective performances from them.
The story is simple. Bala lives with his loving mother in poor surroundings. His rise in the underworld is clearly exploited by the scheming politician Nayak, and the wicked police officer Shantha Kumar. His love interest is a singer, Mallige.
After an award-winning performance in Duniya, Vijay comes out with yet another memorable performance. Shubha Poonja is very natural as Mallige. Veteran artists Umashri, Achyutha, B Suresha and Sathya are perfect in their roles.
Music director Arjun has done remarkable job both as a composer and back ground scorer.
Slum Bala is a must-see film for all those who love good and realistic cinema.
