Chhapaak Trailer: Deepika's screams are spine-chilling

December 10, 2019 15:46 IST

The Chhapaak trailer could have been a dark and depressing tale of a girl disfigured by a vicious attack but fortunately, it isn't, feels Moumita Bhattacharjee.

It's always brave when you don't conform to the norms.

Heroines in Bollywood are supposed to look hot, glamorous and stunning in the movies.

So when we heard that Deepika Padukone was playing an acid attack victim in Chhapaak, it was a welcome change.

Based on the life and struggles of acid attack victim Laxmi Aggarwal, the trailer leaves you worried about the rising crimes against women.

The trailer begins with reference to the Nirbhaya case, perhaps to make it more poignant.

Deepika makes a mark in the trailer, and her screams may haunt you.

The scene where she looks at the mirror after the attack may give you goosebumps.

There are many moments in the trailer, which will make you believe that director Meghna Gulzar has packed in some strong moments.

The one where water is poured on Deepika right after the attack or the point where her lawyer says, 'Iss shor ki aadat dal lo' after a child screams looking at her face.

Everything will scar you.

The Chhapaak trailer could have been a dark and depressing tale of a girl disfigured by a vicious attack but fortunately, it isn't.

There's light at the end of the tunnel.

The scene when Vikrant Massey tells her, 'Abhi bahut ladai baaki hai, tum itna khush dikhogi to kaise chalega' is inspiring.

It reflects the fact that people expect you to be sad and distraught *all the time* just because life turned out this way.

Malti decides to be happy despite the tragedy, and that's the biggest takeaway from the film.

Deepika and Vikrant Massey share a pleasant chemistry, and their jodi looks promising.

She makes her debut as a producer with this film, and it couldn't have been a better project to start her new innings.

Chhapaak will release on January 10.
