Actress Laveena Bhatia has been arrested in connection with murder of actor Kunal Singh, who was found dead at his residence in last February, the police said today.
Kunal had starred in Bhojpuri films like Gangotri and Mai Baap, Tamil film Kadhalar Dinam and its Hindi remake Dil Hi Dil Mein opposite Sonali Bendre. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his rented apartment in Versova, surburban Mumbai.
Laveena, who co-starred with Kunal in the film Yogi, was in the house when the incident happened. However, in last August, the Bombay High Court asked the police to re-look into Kunal's alleged suicide case after the victim's father, Rajendra, filed a petition that his son was murdered.
"After the court order, the case was re-investigated and a murder case was registered. We suspect Laveena's role in the crime. She was arrested on Sunday under Section 302 [punishment for murder] of the IPC [Indian Penal Code]," Inspector K Gadekar, Versova Police Station said.
Rajendra allegedly said, when he claimed his son's body from the hospital, that he had found several injury marks on his arm and chest suggesting that someone strangulated him and later hanged the body from the ceiling to make it look like suicide.
