'I don't get bored.'
'Tired, yeah, but never bored.'
Taapsee Pannu is among the busiest actors in Bollywood and here's proof.
Her latest film, Annabelle Sethupathi, is a Tamil horror flick with Vijay Sethupathi and she's excited about it.
"I like my job and have reached a stage where I can pick and choose films that I know will get me excited about going to work every morning, rather than doing films just for the sake of staying in the market," she tells Subhash K Jha.
When did you shoot for Annabelle Sethupathi?
The shoot began in September 2020, after the first lockdown.
It was the first film I shot after the COVID-19 pandemic started.
I have a double role in it.
It's a fantasy comedy based on the idea of reincarnation.
My first double role, so doubly exciting.
What was it like working with Vijay Sethupathi?
I was looking forward to working with him.
I like his work and had heard good things about him.
They all turned out to be true.
You started you career in the south. So this is a homecoming in a way?
I do at least one south film every year, so it's not new for me.
My last south film was the Tamil-Telugu Game Over in 2019.
How do you manage to be so prolific?
I like my job and have reached a stage where I can pick and choose films that I know will get me excited about going to work every morning, rather than doing films just for the sake of staying in the market.
You have just finished shooting for your first home production, Blurr. What was that like?
Very, very emotionally taxing to do that film!
I am finishing the last two days of the shoot in Mumbai.
It has been a good experience.
I learnt a lot, celebrated a lot.
After this, I will go to Shabaash Mithu.
Audiences don't mind you being so prolific since every film of yours is unique.
Yeah, I guess the shift in genres and characters really helps me to keep going.
I don't get bored.
Tired, yeah, but never bored.
Do you like your new role as a producer?
I have always liked to own up as far as the responsibility of my films is concerned.
As a producer, I can hak se ask for things I would want in my films and take a call.
As an actor, I don't do that because I don't want to be labelled as intrusive.
How is Shabaash Mithu looking to you?
I had only shot for six days when we stopped shooting due to the lockdown.
Getting back now will be like a re-start.
