Vote: Will you give up cable TV?

Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar offer attractive price points to the Indian audience. Urvi Malvania reports.HL

In the United States, many consumers are "cutting the cord", as they give up cable television and move to on-demand video streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, which are 80 per cent cheaper. These companies have launched operations in India and some are offering attractive price points. Whether Indian consumers adopt these over-the-top players just like in the US remains to be seen.

Amazon Prime

Netflix  

Price/month: Rs 500, Rs 650 and Rs 800

Services: Access to content and download facility

Hungama Play  

Price/month: Pay per view and monthly rental of Rs 60 

Services: Access to content and download facilities

Content: Bollywood and Hollywood films and will add original content in 2017

VooT  

Price/month: Free (ad-supported)

Services: Access to content

Content: Viacom18 broadcast content, exclusive digital content created for VooT around TV content, movies, kids content and VooT Originals

Hotstar  

Price/month: Rs 199 

Services: Access to content and download facilities

Content: Bollywood and Hollywood films, Star India TV content, English shows including those from HBO, live sports
