The creepy slasher hit Freddy vs Jason led the North American box office for the second consecutive weekend while three films -- My Boss's Daughter, Marci X and the Jackie Chan adventure The Medallion -- hardly made an impact.

Made at $30 million, a modest budget by Hollywood standards, Freddy vs Jason, which lost 63 per cent of its box-office clout, was still able to accumulate $61 million in 10 days. By next weekend, it should break even.
The movie stars veteran Robert Englund and newcomer Ken Kirzinger as the two evil guys from the two horror franchises of the 1980s that slowly became extinct: Freddy Krueger of Nightmare On Elm Street and Jason Voorhees of Friday The 13th. Now, with the resounding success of Freddy vs Jason, producer New Line surely is ready to give the green light for the next film in the series.
The long-delayed comedy My Boss's Daughter was destined for video stores, but distributor Dimension Films, a subdivision of Miramax, released the film because lead player Ashton Kutcher has attained a high profile recently, mainly due to his relationship with actress Demi Moore. The film was dead on arrival.
Marci X, starring Friends star Lisa Kudrow as a Jewish American princess who runs a rap label, did not even open among the top 10. The film, which cost $22 million, opened at No 15 with just about $865,000. It will be a wonder if it stays in movie theatres next weekend.

Following Freddy vs Jason on the charts are four movies that remain unchanged from last weekend, with the cop action drama S.W.A.T. taking its 17-day total to $88.1 million.
Actor-director Kevin Costner's well-received Western, Open Range, made at a humble budget of $25 million, has roped in $29 million.
The $9.4 million weekend gross of Open Range was a tad higher than the gross of Freaky Friday, a body exchange comedy involving a mother and daughter. Freaky Friday is yet another low-budget film to score big at the box office by grossing $74.5 million in three weeks. The comedy has an excellent chance of reaching $100 million benchmark.
The Jackie Chan comic adventure The Medallion grossed the most among the new releases, and made an entry at No 5. The Hong Kong flick stars Chan as a cop brought back from the dead by a boy who possesses a divine adornment. The movie made around $8.4 million.
At No 6 is the immensely popular Pirates Of The Caribbean, which dropped to 20 per cent from the previous weekend. The sea adventure has shown tremendous staying power that it is expected to plunder $300 million before reaching the video and DVD shores. Its present gross is $261 million.
Two Universal Pictures movies -- Seabiscuit at No 7 and American Wedding, the No 9 movie of the week -- are marching towards the $100 million gross. The former has grossed $93 million and the latter, $90 million.
