Tamil actor Vijay races ahead of Katrina Kaif!

October 29, 2014 16:16 IST

Vijay statueEven as Katrina Kaif's Madame Tussauds wax figure is getting ready, Tamil actor Vijay has already beaten her to it.

His fans have made a statue to celebrate the success of his newest film, Kaththi.

This isn't the first time Vijay, who has a fan base second only to the superstar Rajinikanth, has been immortalised with a statue.

His first statue was unveiled in Kerala, where he is just as popular.

The statue, dressed in his signature blue jeans, white shirt, and dark glasses, was commissioned by his Facebook Fan Club and was installed outside a theatre in Chennai on Sunday, October 26.

When fans started kissing the statue and taking pictures with their arms around it, the fan club decided to move the statue inside the theatre.

"It was our Deepavali gift to the Ilayathalapathy as Kaththi had a huge opening. We wanted to do something different. That is how we came up with the idea of a statue and we made it at Chindadiripet for Rs 50,000," said Arivanam, a fan who helped erect the statue.

He said the police objected to the statue being placed in the theatre without permission.

Fans will now keep the statue in the main office of the fans association, or, if Vijay permits, at the actor's residence.
