What is the one single factor that makes you a big fan of Kamal Haasan?
Well, this is a simple question which is very difficult to answer. Kamal Hassan is one unique actor who tries to create new milestones every time he does a film. He is the example of guts and glory. And this is what makes me a huge fan of his.
Are you inspired by Kamal as an actor?
Inspiration is too small a word to describe how I rate him as an actor. His sheer grit to do the impossible and to challenge himself to achieve great strides is something that can inspire many young and old actors alike. He never rests on laurels and is not flattered by any level of appreciation and recognition for his hard work. For example, you can see him achieving new milestones with every film of his such as Nayagan, Devar Magan, Appu Raja, Michael Madana Kamarajan, Indian, Avvai Shanmughi and Hey Ram.
I could also include my own film Rama Shaama Bhaama where his comedic genius even surpassed those of Avvai Shanmughi and Tenali. He creates new bench marks in every new film.
Acting with him is a bonus because he constantly advises you on how you can enhance your performance in the film.
What appeals to you about Kamal as a director?
There are many things. He always insists on international quality in every aspect. He loves novelty in scripts and narration. You can see him avoiding all kinds of cliches. He detests stupidity and does not want anything in the film to look illogical.
You are also a great friend of Kamal Hassan. I think he had organised a special show of Panchathanthram exclusively for you. He also did that for Thevar Magan?
Yes, you are right. Kamal sir even flew to Bangalore to be part of this special premier of Panchathanthram on the same day the film had an international release. The show was also organised for the industry and media friends. I am fortunate enough to be Kamal sir's good friend. He is a great friend who respects your space, guides you the right way without mincing words.
