Tamil film Vaanam is being shot in Garib Nagar, a slum in Bandra (a western suburb of Mumbai), where Slumdog Millionaire girl Rubina's home was recently gutted by fire. It is being directed by Telugu director Krish.

When he heard about Rubina's loss, Dayanidhi Azhagiri -- son of politician M Azhagiri, and distributor of Vaanam -- decided to help her.

He called Rubina to Venus Studios (that is marketing the audio of Vaanam) office and donated an amount of Rs 50,000 to her.

The film's leading man Silambarasan handed over the cheque to her in the presence of Dayanidhi and the film's producer R Ganesh.

On behalf of Venus, producer Champak Jain also donated Rs 21,000 to her.

Silambarasan was surprised when Rubina called him 'anna' and told him that she had seen his films. The actor plans to give her a chance to act in one of his films.

Vaanam is the Tamil remake of the highly successful Telugu film Vedam.
