July 01, 2010 17:41 IST

No, the actor has not won any award.

Rather Best Actor is the title of his new Malayalam film where he plays a school teacher who is desperate to make his entry into films.

Martin Prakkat, a photographer is the director. Kannada actor Shruthi Ramakrishna is the heroine.

According to the director, "we have seen several films where cinema-within-cinema kind of situations happens. Here it is different in the sense, the story is being unveiled through the eyes of an ordinary viewer," says Martin.

Best Actor is being produced by Noushad and Anto Joseph under the banner of Big Screen Productions. Ajayan Vincent wields the camera. The music director is Biji Bal.

Mammootty has got reason to cheer with the success of Pokkiri Raja, after a dismal run of some of his films at the box office.

Best Actor has completed its first schedule in Kochi and will start again in August.

In the meantime Mammootty will complete Ranjith's Pranchiyettan and the Saint.

Martin Prakkat who worked as a photographer for a prominent Malayalam publication narrated the story idea of Best Actor to Mammootty.

Martin had Anwar Rasheed in mind as the director. But Anwar encouraged Martin to direct the film. The screenplay and dialogues have been written by Bipin Chandran.

Best Actor is expected to hit the theatres during Ramzan.
