The 62nd Cannes Film Festival which got underway on Wednesday night promises to be an exciting one.
The opening night itself saw actors, models, filmmakers and jury members walk the red carpet. India was well-represented by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sharmila Tagore.
Even the line-up of films this year looks promising. We have Quentin Tarantino's World War II drama Inglourious Basterds starring Brad Pitt, one of 20 films showing in the competition and vying for the coveted Palme d'Or for best picture.
Also in the running are Pedro Almodovar's Broken Embraces starring Penelope Cruz, Ken Loach's Looking for Eric featuring former French soccer star Eric Cantona and Lars von Trier's horror Antichrist.
Former Palme d'Or award winner for The Piano in 1993, returns with Bright Star, a film based on the romance between 19th century poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne.
But the biggest movie vying for the Palme d'Or has to be Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Heath Ledger's final role which Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law help complete.
Bollywood hopes to cash in on the Cannes festival too. Buzz is that Hrithik Roshan will promote his latest movie Kites at the event. The Kambakht Ishq team is also expected to promote their film here.
