There are not many good roles for actresses in Malayalam films.
Within those restrictions the following actresses gave terrific performances in 2013.

Ann Augustine displayed amazing maturity in the role of a young girl married to an eccentric, blind painter.
Her character went through a range of emotions. Viewers could sense her despair as events unfolded.
Fim: Thira
Thira, directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, was a disappointment. But Shobhana’s performance in the film gave it some credibility.
She handled the tense situations in the film very ably.
Film: Shutter
Portraying a role of a prostitute who is stuck in a room with a stranger, Sajitha Madathil was simply spectacular.
Her mannerisms and dialogue delivery were suited to the character she played. Viewers were very appreciative of her performance.
Film: August Club
The plight of a married woman who has to come to terms with temptation was presented in a realistic way by Rima Kallingal.
She portrayed the anguish that she goes through with subtle expressions and amazing dignity.
Film: Oru Indian Pranayakatha
Sathyan Anthikkad’s Oru Indian Pranayakatha was old-fashioned and cliched.
Amala Paul was the saving grace of the film. She turned in a good performance that needs to be appreciated.
