Here's looking at Bollywood's royal ladies.

Bollywood is no Disney.

There's no assemblage of Cinderellas, Jasmines or Snow Whites to boast of.

Simply because films about fantasy or royalty aren’t considered a huge draw. But whenever our ‘prone to special treatment’ heroines are roped in to play out their childhood dream, these beauties have no trouble playing the pampered princess to the hilt.

Here’s a look at Bollywood’s PRETTIEST princesses.

Sunny Leone, Leela

The buxom star of Jism 2 and Ragini MMS is slated to play a sexy princess in Bobby Khan’s upcoming dance musical, tentatively titled Leela.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jodhaa Akbar

Though she becomes Akbar’s unenthusiastic queen half an hour into Ashutosh Gowariker’s lavish interpretation of history, Aishwarya makes her entry as a plucky Rajput princess with impressive sword fencing skills in Jodha Akbar.

Zarine Khan, Veer

There isn’t much to talk about Zarine Khan’s ‘Katrina lookalike’ presence in Salman Khan’s Veer except she catches his eye as the Princess alternating between wardrobes of strictly desi ghagras and vintage English gowns.

Kareena Kapoor, Asoka

Before marrying into royalty, Kareena Kapoor essayed the warrior princess Kaurwaki who falls in love with Shah Rukh Khan’s Emperor Asoka mistaking him to be a sweet commoner in Santosh Sivan’s middling historical.

Even though Asoka met with a lukewarm response, everyone raved about Bebo’s fierce, smoky-eyed, tattooed look in the film.

Madhuri Dixit, Rajkumar

In Bollywood reworking of Robin Hood led by Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit lives out many a girl’s childhood fantasy as a stylish princess obsessively changing into a variety of costumes, makeup and hairstyles in, like, every two seconds.

Sridevi, Sultanat

There’s a lot of curiosity about what Sridevi will do next after her delightful return in English Vinglish. Well, she’s all set to play a princess in Chimbu Devan’s Tamil fantasy costarring Vijay and Sudeep.

Previously, she played the bratty Princess Yasmin who, at first hates but later, predictably, falls in love with a dashing Sunny Deol in Mukul Anand’s big-budget multistarrer, Sultanat.

Tabu, Pehla Pehla Pyaar

Tabu’s Bollywood debut as an adult is a messy Roman Holiday rip-off wherein the actress plays a runaway princess in the pursuit of adventure and freedom.

She tasted success only after jiggling to Ruk Ruk Ruk in Vijaypath.

Jaya Pradha,Pataal Bhairavi

In her heyday, Jaya Pradha worked in several remakes of South Indian costume dramas opposite Jeetendra.

Both Pataal Bhairavi and Singhasan feature the pretty lady as a majestic Princess drowning in clunky gold and blingy costumes.

Zeenat Aman, Dharam Veer

In Manmohan Desai’s flamboyant costume drama, everyone dresses up like they belong in ancient Rome but the script is unmistakably Bollywood.

There’s also Zeenat Aman playing the haughty princess Dharmendra madly pursues in many a comical sequences of Dharam Veer.

Hema Malini, Baghavat

Regal and Hema Malini are synonymous with each other. No article complimenting the actress is complete without the word.

No wonder she’s played a sought-after royal princess in so many of her movies like Azaad, Gora Aur Kaala, Kranti and Baghavat.

Sadhana, Rajkumar

If Shammi Kapoor essays the title role in the superhit Rajkumar, co-star Sadhana plays the exotic rajkumari with just as much elan.

Besides their breezy chemistry, Shankar-Jaikishan’s breathtaking melodies, there’s lot to admire about Sadhana’s drop dead gorgeous look in this costume-y affair.

The reincarnation drama travels back and forth in time to narrate Waheeda Rehman’s connection to a mysterious voice from the ruins.

In her previous birth, Rehman is a princess and the object of an artisan’s (Raaj Kumar) affections, a realisation that isn’t taken too kindly by the King who orders him to be buried alive.

Rajendra Kumar’s hugely successful Suraj relies on Vyjayanthimala’s splendor to work.

The classic beauty plays a free-spirited Princess who persuades her handmaiden to take her place in order to choose a suitor of her own liking.

Meena Kumari, Kohinoor

Tragedy icons Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari dump all their emotional baggage to have a ball in the frothy romance set in the backdrop of a glorious kingdom.

A far cry from her sombre image, Meena Kumari sparkles in the avatar of a perky princess.

Mala Sinha, Jahan Arar

Mala Sinha demonstrates the grace and grit of a King’s daughter who sacrifices her love to fulfill her commitment as a daughter in one of her acclaimed roles in and as Jahan Ara.
