The Top Tamil Actresses of 2012

Very rarely do you find powerful performances by female protagonists in Tamil films, with the hero dominating the film. But 2012 was slightly different.

Here's our pick of the five best performances.

Shruti Haasan

Film: 3

As the school student, Shruti looked innocent and vulnerable. As a young wife who lost her husband, she was magnificent. Her heart-rending performance in Aishwarya Dhanush's maiden film 3 can be termed as the best of 2012.

Samantha

Film: Neethane Enn Ponnvasantham

Samantha looked unsure in her first film for Gautham Menon but as Nithya in his latest, Neethane Enn Ponvasantham, she was simply brilliant.

She is the heart and soul of the film.

 

Amala Paul

Film: Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi

As Parvathi, a confused college girl in love, Amala Paul was lovely. The highlight of the film is her excellent chemistry with the hero of the film, Siddharth.

Remya Nambeesan

Film: Pizza

Remya Nambeesan has come a long way from the time she started acting, in Malayalam films. As cunning Anu, she gave a very interesting performance in Pizza.

Priya Mani

Film: Charulatha

The highlight of the film Charulatha was the National Award winning actress Priya Mani's performance as conjoined twins.

Though not on par with some of her earlier scintillating performances, she made the two characters - Charu and Latha - distinctly different and interesting.
