Sonam Kapoor: Can't do justice to what Rekha did in Khoobsurat

Sonam Kapoor, who has stepped into Rekha's shoes for the remake version of Khoobsurat, says she cannot do justice to what the veteran actress did in the original film.

Khoobsurat is the remake of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's classic comedy which featured Rekha in the lead role and Sonam is aware that her version will draw comparisons with the old classic.

"I don't think I can do justice to what Rekha has done. This film is an ode to Hrishikesh Mukherjee's filmmaking," Sonam, 29, told reporters in Mumbai at the trailer launch of the film.

"There are very few films that have been wholesome entertainers and have great value. Hrishikesh Mukherjee's films appealed to all as they were fun films with a message. Today such films are made by Raju Hirani," Sonam said.

She thinks the 1980 release will be relevant even now as things like love, happiness and family values remain the same. In the film, Sonam plays Mili, a spirited young girl, who creates ripples in an order-crazy royal family.

"I am more like this character in real life. This is my personality. Rhea (her sister who has produced the film) and Shashanka (Ghosh, director) have taken a lot of me in this film. They have exposed my life completely," Sonam said.

The film is set to release on September 19 and Sonam is nervous as well as excited about it.

"It is a huge responsibility but it was exciting to work on this film," Sonam said.

The movie marks the Bollywood debut of popular Pakistani actor-singer Fawad Khan. The original film had Rakesh Roshan as the male lead.

The film also stars Kirron Kher, Ratna Pathak and others.

Meanwhile, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, who has been facing criticism from some fans in his country for working in Khoobsurat, says he does not pay attention to such things.

Apparently, Fawad's fans from Pakistan have taken to social networking sites to say that he has hurt the sentiments of his country by working in a Hindi film.

"The people who you are talking about are very few. There will be people who will criticise... they are entitled to their opinion. Art knows no culture and creed. As an actor I would like to explore myself. I do feel bad but I choose to ignore it. I think to pay attention to it is unnecessary," Fawad told reporters.

The actor, who has starred in films like Khuda Ke Liye and TV dramas Humsufer and Zindagi Gulzar Hai, plays the role of a royal prince in Khoobsurat, a modern-day adaptation of the cult romantic comedy of the same name.

Nick Moore, the editor of Hollywood films like Notting Hill and Love Actually, has been roped in to edit the international version of Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor-starrer Finding Fanny.

Moore will edit the movie for its release in non-diaspora markets. The film, directed by Homi Adajania, will be released in US, Europe and far East in screens, where no other Indian movie has ever been released.

The Hindi and English versions of Finding Fanny will open in theatres on September 12, across India and in 40 international territories, which form the diaspora markets.

"The difference between the two versions is just three-four minutes and not a complete re-edit. This English version will be cut by Nick Moore to cater to that audience," Homi said.

The makers also plan to release a separate edited version of the film in non-diaspora markets three-four months after its September release.

"It's the same story but will be told in a way that the foreigners understand better," Homi said.

Moore has also directed films like Wild Child (2008) and Horrid Henry: The Movie (2011).

Finding Fanny, which also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Kapur in prominent roles, is based on a road trip set in Goa and follows the journey of five characters.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti star Rhea Chakraborty has been cast opposite Riteish Deshmukh in Yash Raj Films' upcoming comedy Bank-Chor.

"Bank-Chor is a rollercoaster ride and I'm delighted to be on it. I've had a blast with the team on Mere Dad Ki Maruti and I'm sure this is only going to be bigger and better," Rhea said in a statement.

The actress, who was seen opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in his single, O Heeriye, next stars in Rohan Sippy's Sonali Cable and UTV Spotboy's Babbu Ki Jawani and in another project from YRF.

Ashish Patil, Business and Creative Head, Youth Films at YRF said he needed someone with spunk to play the role opposite Riteish, who is known to be great with his comic skills.

"We needed someone with spunk, who could be cute and hot at the same time besides speak 2000 words per minute for this part. Rhea speaks 8000 words per minute in real life," Patil said.

The comic-caper, which tells the story of three morons trying to rob a bank, is directed by Bumpy and produced by Patil. 

Comedian Kapil Sharma was initially set to play the lead in the movie but things did not work out between him and the production house.

The eighth season of popular TV game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, which will see Amitabh Bachchan returning to the host's chair, promises to touch people's hearts with the stories of community bonding.

The show, which emphasised on the 'common man' theme last year, will revolve around the hopes of people with diverse regional, cultural and religious backgrounds.

The core message of this season's campaign strengthens this proposition with the thought 'Yahan Sirf Paise Nahi, Dil Bhi Jeete Jate Hain' (We don't win money only, we win hearts too).

Kaun Banega Crorepati 8 will be launched in the middle of August after Big B's current running show Yudh gets over.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher has undergone a minor eye surgery, due to a cyst in his upper eyelid.

The 59-year-old Padma Shri awardee took to Twitter to share the news and jokingly asked for sympathy from his followers.

"On my way for a minor 'cyst in the upper eyelid' surgery. Thodi sympathy mil jaye to shayad dard cum Ho jayega. Baki aapki marzi (It would be great to have some sympathy, rest is up to you)," he wrote.

Actress Shraddha Kapoor feels lucky to be a part of filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming project Haider at such an early stage of her career.

Haider, an adaptation of Hamlet and completes Bhardwaj's trilogy of William Shakespeare's tragedies after Macbeth and Othello, has a stellar star cast of Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan besides the actress.

"I still can't believe that I am a part of Vishal sir's Haider. It's such a surreal experience for me. I am lucky that he has given me this opportunity at such an early stage of my career. It has an ensemble starcast of veteran actors like Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Irrfan. I feel it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Shraddha, who is just four-films-old in the industry, said.

In the film adaptation, Shraddha is playing Hamlet's tragic lover Ophelia.

"Vishal sir has adapted the play brilliantly with an Indian setting. I am playing a press reporter Arshia, which is am amalgamation of Shakespeare's Ophelia and Horatio (a friend to Hamlet). I read Hamlet in school but I don't remember it well. Sir's (Vishal) script was enough to understand all these characters," she said.

After the success of Teri galiyan in Ek Villain, Shraddha has once again sung a Kashmiri folk song in Haider.

"Arshia is a Kasmiri girl and the role is different. I need to understand the way a Kashmiri girl behaves and Vishal sir helped me with that. Tabu ma'am and I sang for the film but we didn't sing together," she said.

Shot primarily in Kashmir, Haider will hit theatres on October 2 along with Hrithik Roshan-starrer Bang Bang.

After the success of her last film Main Tera Hero, actress Ileana D'Cruz hopes that her next venture opposite Saif Ali Khan and Govinda titled Happy Ending will be appreciated by the audience.

The romantic comedy has been directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK. The film also features Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin and will see Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor Khan in cameo roles.

"The shooting of Happy Ending is almost over. It is a great film. I had a great time shooting it. I hope that the film does as good as we expect it to do," Ileana said.

The 25-year-old actress walked the ramp at the India Couture week last night for designer Sulakshana Monga, who showcased a collection inspired by the British Raj and Indian Maharajas.

Bipasha Basu says she wants to dress like a Bengali bride for her wedding.

Although the 35-year-old actress, who is dating actor Harman Bawaja, did not reveal any marriage plans, she said that she would love to have an elaborate wedding.

"I am from Bengal and when I get married, I will definitely want a traditional Bengali bridal look. I want it to be very extravagant as well," Bipasha said.

The actress began dating Harman in 2012 after meeting at Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday bash.

The model-turned-actress took to the ramp at the India Couture Week donning a very bridal rusty red, velvet Rohit Bal lehenga teamed with jewellery.

"It is great to be back on the ramp in Delhi as I started my modelling career from here. I have always got a lot of love and warmth from the people here," she said.

Bipasha, who last seen in Sajid Khan's Humshakals, is gearing up for the release of her upcoming thriller Creature, which will hit theatres on September 12.

She is currently filming Alone in which she is paired opposite TV actor Karan Singh Grover.
