A movie star who shares the same initials as this film's star dies in a car accident, we're told in newscaster monotone, while we see Aamir Khan's unmistakable silhouette -- Spock ears appearing sharper than ever -- looming in the rain.

Khan, wearing a well-fitted cop uniform, wears a scowl and a Hulk Hogan moustache with brooding intensity: he's investigating a high-profile case and he means business.

The case, and some kind of pattern before it, takes Aamir's Inspector Shekhawat to the red-light district, where he seems distracted by a streetwalker named Rosie, played by Kareena Kapoor.

Meanwhile Shekhawat's wife, Rani Mukerji, complains that he never expresses himself. Kapoor pouts smugly, Mukerji whines, and Khan has nightmares involving drowning.

Accusations fly at the Inspector, his career and marriage jeopardised as he self-confessedly stumbles about in the dark.

All this while the volatile Nawazuddin Siddiqui aims a sniper rifle at him and sinisterly talks of getting him out of the way.

Secrets, lies, intrigue and many a car accident. What truly works though is the moodiness prevalent in Reema Kagti's film. It's been a while since we've been this hooked by the promise of suspense.

Bring on the hunt.
