Two Kannada films will be releasing on Friday, June 27, across Karnataka.
One is titled Jai Lalitha, directed by P Kumar, which is a remake of the Malayalam hit Maya Mohini.
The other film is Paru w/o Devdas, directed by Kiran Govi. A look at these two films
Paru w/o Devdas
Director: Kiran Govi
Cast: Srinagara Kitty, Soundarya Jayamala, Neha Patil, Siddaraj Kalyankar, Veena, Layendra, Mohan Juneja
This is the love story of a young couple who do not express their love for each other because both have inflated egos.
“This is an ego trip for the young lovers who are also dignified friends,” said director Kiran Govi.
The director, who made Payana and Sanchari, said he has adopted reverse screenplay to show what he calls a mild, mature and musical love story fit for family audiences. There’s also the other woman who comes between the lovers, according to the director.
The film is a modern take on Devdas and has nothing to do with the novel, according to Kiran Govi.
“I play Parvathi, an innocent, homely, backward thinking girl who is also a kathak dancer and an aspiring journalist. The girl doesn’t come with pre-conceived notions about love or marriage,” said Soundarya.
The film is written and directed by Kiran Govi. Krishna Devegowda is the producer. Arjun Janya has scored the music. Ramesh Raj is the cinematographer.
The film has been shot in Bangalore, Bidadi, Chickmagalur, Hyderabad, Talakad, Kollegal and Bidar.
Director: P Kumar
Cast: Sharan, Ravishankar Gowda, Harish Raj, Disha Pandey, Aishwarya Devan
Jai Lalitha is a comedy that will entertain comedian Sharan’s fans.
Sharan plays the role of a woman for a major part of the film, which is a remake of the Malayalam hit Maya Mohini. The original had Dileep playing the role of the woman.
According to director P Kumar, the Kannada version will cater to Sharan’s genre of comedy and not turn serious in the last 30 minutes like the original.
Ravishankar and Harish Raj play the romantic interest of Sharan in his woman avatar. Disha Pandey plays Sharan’s love interest as a man.
Madhugiri Mallikarjuna, the make-up man, had to import materials from Bangkok, Dubai and Mumbai. Cinematographer Karunakar has used both raw stock (negative) and the digital format to shoot the movie.
The Regional Censor Board has given a U/A certificate to Jai Lalitha after initially refusing to certify the movie, as the songs and the trailer were aired on television channels and YouTube without getting a certificate.
Jai Lalitha was shot in Bangalore, Mysore and other parts of Karnataka.
