Actor Daniel Franzese, who starred alongside Lindsay Lohan and Lizzy Caplan in 2004's Mean Girls, has come out as gay through a letter to his character of Damian in the hit teen comedy.
The 35-year-old actor wrote an open letter to acknowledge his sexual orientation ahead of the movie's tenth anniversary, reported Ace Showbiz.
'I was 26, you were 16. You were proud of who you were; I was an insecure actor. You became an iconic character that people looked up to; I wished I'd had you as a role model when I was younger,' Franzese wrote.
'I might've been easier to be gay growing up. When I was cast in the role of Damian in Mean Girls, I was terrified to play this part. But this was a natural and true representation of a gay teenager -- a character we laughed with instead of at,' he further wrote.
Franzese said that he originally resisted playing Damian to avoid hitting a 'gay glass ceiling' in the casting process.
