Budget constraints for Shwaas' Oscar run?

October 06, 2004 15:43 IST

The National Award-winning film Shwaas is India's official entry at the Oscars. Unfortunately, there are few takers to promote this Marathi movie abroad.

Admits director Sandeep Sawant, "Marketing an Indian regional movie for the topmost honour of world cinema is no child's play. We may face financial problems. It is a new experience for us. We will consult (Lagaan producer and director) Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker."

Shwaas is the first Marathi film to have won a National Award in the last 50 years.

Two years ago, Lagaan was
shortlisted for the Oscar for best foreign film, but lost to Bosnia's No Man's Land.
