Shiney's bail plea rejected

July 08, 2009 13:44 IST

Shiney Ahuja's bail plea was rejected by the sessions court in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The actor, who was charged with raping his maid at his home on June 14, had applied for bail stating that he will not interfere in the investigation or try to influence the victim. He had also mentioned in his bail application that he was ready to stay away from Mumbai if the court instructs him to do so.

The court however observed that he has been charged with a serious offence and a prima facie case has been made out against him. The court also refused to accept the defence's arguments that the victim's story of alleged rape is 'doubtful and concocted.'

Shiney's lawyer, Shrikant Shivade, confirmed that Shiney's bail plea had been rejected but refused to give details. Reports said the defence will go in appeal to the high court.

The actor has been claiming innocence in the case but a DNA test is reported to have confirmed that Shiney did have sex with his maid.

At present, Shiney is incarcerated in Arthur Road Jail, located in south-central Mumbai.
