The music capital of North East India, Shillong, is all set to rock to the tune of the 'biggest ever guitar ensemble' on October 26 in an attempt to storm into the Guinness Book of World Record.

The 'Largest Guitar Ensemble' is being organised at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong as part of the Shillong Autumn Festival 2007 by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF), an association of tour operators, hoteliers in the Scotland of East.

The MTDF vice-chairman Larsing M informed that the organisers expect to attract over 2,000 guitarists from all parts of the country and even abroad. The guitar ensemble will perform legendary Bob Dylan's classic Knocking on Heavens Door.

Enthused by the last Autumn Festival's 'drum ensemble' that had broken all records to enter the Guinness Book of World Record, the MTDF is organising the guitar ensemble this year.

At present, the world record stands at 1,721 guitarists from Kansas City in the USA performing the rock classic Smoke on the water on June 4 this year.

A guitar fair in London will also attempt to topple the same record on November 2.

A special cash prize of Rs 20,000 shall be given to the largest contingent of minimum 100 guitarists who shall enter the venue together along with banner bearing contingent's name. The MTDF has sent an open invitation to all celebrity guitarists of the country and abroad besides tourists visiting Shillong around this time to take part in the mega guitar ensemble.

All hotel rooms in Shillong have been booked already for the Autumn Festival, which concludes on November 4.
