Shalimar director Krishna Shah passes away

Filmmaker Krishna Shah, who directed India's first international film Shalimar starring Dharmendra, Zeenat Aman and Shammi Kapoor, passed away on October 13 in Los Angeles.

Shah, 75, had been ill ever since he suffered a stroke last year.

A UCLA and Yale graduate, Shah started his showbiz career by writing for Broadway and later helmed genre films like Hard Rock Zombies.

He also adapted Rabindranath Tagore's The King of the Dark Chamber as an award-winning

off Broadway production which ran for almost a year. 

Owner of a production company called Double Helix Films and a production, distribution and foreign sales company called MRI which handled many films including Rubberface starring Jim Carrey  and Little Noise featuring Tatum O'Neil, Shah was currently working on an Indira Gandhi biopic.

He is survived by his wife and a son.
