Sachin's Marathi Satte Pe Satta!

From a bubbly child artist to a popular hero and then successful filmmaker, and even dancer, Sachin Pilgaonkar has played many roles effortlessly in his long innings.

After his hit Marathi film, Navra Maza Navsacha, two years ago, Sachin is ready with the upcoming, Amhi Satpute, starring his wife Supriya and Ashok Saraf.

The film seemingly bears a close resemblance to 1982's hit, Satte Pe Satta. The film, which saw Amitabh Bachchan in a double role, also saw Sachin play the Big B's youngest brother. Satte Pe Satta was a remake of the 1954 Hollywood musical hit, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

In this interview, Sachin talks about Amhi Satpute, and its inspiration.

It is said that Amhi Satpute is a remake of Satte Pe Satta.

If there is any similarity, I am not the person to deny it. But why compare it with Satte Pe Satta? Why not Seven Brides For Seven Brothers? You can say that my inspiration is also the 1954 musical hit.

If that is so, what makes your film different from them?

The difference is in treatment and approach. My film is entirely different. Satte Pe Satta was a Bollywood drama. Plus, it had a great actor like Amitabh Bachhan. The story was changed accordingly to suit his character. My film is an out-and-out comedy.

Have you also made any changes?

Though my film is inspired by Seven Brides, it is not a remake or a copy. I make films for the Marathi audience. It is not a Bollywood film, either. It is a film underlining the culture of Maharashtra. Though the Marathi manoos is on a worldwide winning spree, he has not forgotten his roots. In my film, I have focused on these roots, our cultural background.

Tell us more about your film.

My film is a family entertainer. The story revolves around seven sisters, unlike the seven brothers in the previous two films.

Though there are seven brothers, the focus is on these sisters. It has spectacular dance, music and masti. Sonu Nigam has added more fun with his songs. You will not believe but he has sung in the voices of Nitin Mukesh, Kumar Sanu, Shabbir Kumar and Adnan Sami.

I have used the flying cam technique (camera in remote-controlled mini-helicopter) for some shots, which is a first in Marathi film industry. I can safely say that my film has seven times more dhamal!
