July 06, 2018 17:51 IST

Sacred Games transports you back in time when Mumbai was struggling to return to normal after the horrific communal riots of December 1992 and January 1993, says Urvi Parikh.

Sacred Games is exactly the Web series we have been waiting for.

It is gripping, it is intriguing, it is absolutely thrilling!

Sacred Games takes you through the dark bylanes of Bombay from the 1990s with its raw and gritty visuals, a strong background score and some stellar performances.

It transports you back in time when the city was struggling to return to normal after the horrific communal riots of December 1992 and January 1993.

Against this backdrop, Directors Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane weave their story-telling magic by slightly tweaking the story, based on Vikram Chandra's 900-page novel of the same name.

Sartaj Singh, played by Saif Ali Khan, is an honest cop struggling to make a mark in the corrupt system.

He is at an all-time low, both personally and professionally.

He has not cracked any case except arresting a pickpocket.

Desperate to do something big, he receives a big tip off from a mysterious character named Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui).

Singh initially does not heed what Gaitonde has to say.

Only when he reveals certain details does Singh start believing him and tries to track him down.

And that's when the engrossing chase between Singh and Gaitonde begings.

What follows are many twists, many turns.

Sacred Games is the perfect weekend binge-watching show.
