'Ranbir will emerge stronger after his suicidal career decisions'

Ranbir and Rishi KapoorThe recent IIFA 2016 awards in Malaysia saw Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh taking up hosting duties.

Among the several wisecracks that they made, were some stinging salvos at Ranbir Kapoor, and his string of recent flops, like Roy and Bombay Velvet.

Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor has taken the satirical slight in his stride, saying, "I don’t know what exactly Arjun said. But whatever it was, it’s all right, yaar. It is okay to run down anyone for a few laughs on this industry."

"Ranbir is going through that phase in his career when he is facing flak for his choice of films, and rightly so. He has made some mistakes. Ranbir will emerge a stronger, wiser and more learned actor after his suicidal career decisions," the concerned father adds.

"All actors have to go through lean phases. It's part and parcel of the process of growing as an actor," he continues.

Roy director Vikramjit Singh is Ranbir’s childhood friend and dismisses the IIFA hosts' comments on the film (they had wisecracked the film should have been called Destroy, not Roy).

"It’s all in jest and good humour. I accept that my film should have been called Destroy, rather than Roy. But I preferred the Bombay Velvet 'Rosie-Roti' joke," Singh says.

The hosts had stated at IIFA that Ranbir should be named 'Roti' in Bombay Velvet because his co-star Anushka Sharma was named Rosie, which makes 'Rosie-Roti'. 'And they both took the Rosie-Roti away from Anurag Kashyap's pocket,' they said.
