Biopics on sports personalities is the latest fad in Bollywood.
There are four films already in the pipeline or on the floors -- one based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat (starring Aamir Khan), one on cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni (starring Sushant Singh Rajput), one on ace Badminton player Saina Nehwal (Deepika Padukone is rumoured to be a part of it) and one on hockey wizard Gyan Chand (the cast is undecided).
Now, comes the news that a biopic on Olympian shooter Abhinav Bindra is ready to go on the floors as soon as the lead casting is done.
The film on Bindra will be directed by Kannan Iyer, who earlier directed the horror film Ek Thi Daayan.
"For Bindra’s role, Iyer has zeroed-in on two actors -- Ranbir Kapoor and Varun Dhawan -- who have the right build, age and spirit to portray Bindra from age 17 to his present age (33)," says a source.
Apparently, both actors have displayed a keen interest in the project. The final choice will depend on the availability of their dates.
Says the source, "Both are busy actors, and this film requires a long stretch of uninterrupted dates from the actors."
"Right now, the frontrunner is Ranbir as he shares the same birth date as Abhinav Bindra. However, his dates are committed to another biopic, the Sanjay Dutt one to be directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
