Tell us: Did Rafi get his due?

August 24, 2006 20:13 IST
Last week, a Bangladeshi musician claimed that Mohammad Rafi was not given his rightful due in India.

We decided to find out if this was true.

Rafisaab's son Shahid Rafi believes his father was correctly honoured by his country.

Raju Bharatan, the doyen of India's film journalists, feels Rafisaab was extremely gifted and pays a fitting tribute to the great singer.

Our senior colleague Arthur J Pais asserts that Rafisaab's career, in fact, rightly flourished, but may have hurt Talat Mahmood and Manna Dey's careers.

Now, we ask You: Do you think a Padma Shri and a National Award was enough for this legend? Should he have been also been honoured posthumously with the Bharat Ratna and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award? Did Mohammad Rafi get his due? Tell us!
