Prabhu Deva: Varun Dhawan and I are quite similar

Veteran choreographer-filmmaker Prabhu Deva, who reprised his role in Remo D'Souza's hit sequel ABCD 2, has caught attention with his drunken dance in the film.

Interestingly, the 42-year-old is a teetotaler in real life.

“Isn’t that what acting is all about? You have to fake emotions, right? I had to act drunk and dance. I faked halfway through it,” he laughs.

Modest as ever about his legendary dancing prowess, Prabhu Deva gives the credit of his hit number Happy Hour from the film to its two young choreographers.

“I didn’t do anything except dance. Not one single step was suggested by me. When I was signed on to do ABCD 2 I was very sure I would be on the sets only as an actor.

“The entire choreography was done by two extremely talented young boys Paul and Rahul,” he explains.

Speaking about his favourite sequence in the film, Prabhu says, “It’s my scene with the little boy who plays my son. I really felt true emotions for the boy. He has curly hair, just like my younger son. They are almost the same age too.”

Prabhu also speaks warmly of his equation with the film's lead actor Varun Dhawan.

“I rarely bond so well with anyone. Varun is a lot like me. We are both simple people. He works really hard. Both Shraddha and he danced so well in the film. They had to compete with some of the best dancers in the country and they really rose to the occasion.”

He is also all praises for his colleague choreographer-director Remo.

“With ABCD and now ABCD 2 Remo has given birth to a new genre of entertainment in Indian cinema.

“I could’ve directed a dance film in Hindi. But I’m glad I didn’t. I don’t think I’d have been able to do it as well as Remo has done.

“He is amazing in telling a story woven around dancing. I couldn’t have done it better. I am just happy being a part of ABCD, ABCD 2, and maybe 3,4 and 5 in the future, if he makes them.”
