Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey saw some great reviews. Unfortunately, if you're living in Mumbai, you will not get to watch it when it releases this Friday. The release dates of Kaminey and this week's other release Life Partner have been postponed in Mumbai.
The move has come after the Maharashtra state government issued a directive to all theatres to shut down due to the rising swine flu deaths in the city. At present, 11 people have died in the state due to swine flu -- eight of these were from Pune, two were from Mumbai and one was from in Nasik.
"We are releasing Kaminey worldwide except Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai following the directive given by the government," said Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures.
Kaminey, starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, is produced by UTV.
"We look forward to releasing the film in these regions as soon as the cinemas are given permission to re-open," Kapur added.
Life Partner, starring Govinda, Fardeen Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, Genelia D'Souza and Prachi Desai, shared the same fate.
In a hurried press conference held today, the film's producer Abbas-Mastan and distributors Indian films said they will postpone the film's release until Sunday.
"We will release our film in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane on Sunday only after we get a directive to go ahead from the Maharashtra government," said Sandeep Bhargava, Chief Executive Officer of Indian films.
