The police have registered a case against Telugu actor and former MP Mohan Babu for allegedly intimidating and slapping actress Shilpa Shivanand during the shooting of a film in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Shilpa's sister is a Mumbai-based actress, Sakshi Shivanand.
The police booked the case under sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) IPC against the film actor-cum-producer at the Jubilee Hills Police Station.
The incident reportedly took place around 1500 IST at Annapurna Studios on the sets of a Telugu film titled Vishnu, wherein Mohan Babu's son Vishnuvardhan is making his debut opposite Shilpa Shivanand.
Shilpa had earlier acted in another Telugu film Bezawada Police Station three years ago.
In her complaint, Shilpa Shivanand alleged that Mohan Babu wanted Shilpa to do a kissing scene with Vishnu in a song sequence for the film, which is halfway through.
Not satisfied with the first take, Mohan Babu asked Shilpa to repeat the scene, which she refused.
An infuriated Mohan Babu allegedly abused her in filthy language, slapped her, caught her by her hair and dragged her, due to which she fell down and suffered minor injuries on her face.
The actress went to the make-up room and informed her mother Parveen Shivanand.
When the latter intervened, Mohan Babu allegedly got hold of her hair and pushed her, hurling abuses. He reportedly slapped her and threatened her of dire consequences if she did not leave the place immediately.
Shilpa and her mother left the scene in tears and lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police around 1700 IST. Later, they left for Mumbai.
By the time the police went to the studios to investigate, everyone had packed up and left for the day.
They will be interrogated on Wednesday.
No arrests have been made so far.
