Meet Bollywood BEST FRIENDS

July 31, 2021 14:29 IST

Har friend zaroori hota hai sings a very popular ad.

Bollywood knows that well, and so we've seen all kinds of friendships on the big screen through the years.

We celebrate Friendship Day by looking at the various kinds of friends in the movies.

The Fiercely Loyal kind

Dhanush's Kundan would have died of heartbreak much earlier in Raanjhanaa if it hadn't been for the support and encouragement provided by his best friend Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub's Murari.

The two share a fierce and loyal bond, and Murari is willing to do anything for Kundan, including becoming a waiter.

The Adventurous kind

Sometimes, we need adventure in our lives.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara's best friends Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol go for their dream vacation to Spain and decide to do all things adventurous like sky diving, deep sea diving and participate in a bull race so that they can live their fears and have new memories.

The Enterprising kind

In the mood for Chinese food? No worries. All you need is a friend, who will kidnap a Chinese chef just for your cravings.

Yes, Sanjay Dutt's Munna Bhai was lucky enough to have a friend just like that.

Arshad Warsi's Circuit was a very enterprising and carried out Munna Bhai's orders to the letter -- from arranging an item girl to perform in a hospital to arranging for a corpse, Circuit carried out everything.

The Romantic kind

IMAGE: Karisma Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in Dil Toh Pagal Hai.

Karisma Kapoor is madly in love with her best friend Shah Rukh Khan but he doesn't feel the same, as he's rooting for someone else.

Yash Chopra's Dil Toh Pagal Hai had heartbreak and jealousy written all over it when Madhuri Dixit's character enters the life of two best friends.

The Tricky kind

That's the kind when a man is forced to pose as another man's lover, even though both are in love with the same girl.

So while everything is fun on the face of it, Dostana's Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham have undercurrents of rivalry, as they tried to win over Priyanka Chopra.

The 4 am friend kind

4 am friends come in handy when you're having a rough day... or a rough marriage.

When Madhuri Dixit's character has a particularly bad day with husband (Shah Rukh Khan), she calls up her 4 am friend Salman Khan for comfort.

They're so close that her husband gets extremely jealous, to the point where he asks her to leave the house.

The Reluctant kind

The best part about friendship is that we get to choose our friends.

Sometimes, however, the choice is made for us.

So we have Akshay Kumar, who's forced to hang out with Saif Ali Khan in Main Khiladi Tu Anari.

Saif plays an actor who is bored of playing type-cast cop roles. So he sticks around the real cop, Akshay Kumar, to learn his ways.

The Envious kind

Not all friendships turn out okay. Every once in a while, we have a back-stabbing friend, when you least expect it.

Kareena Kapoor and Hazel Keach are best friends in Bodyguard for most of the film.

And then suddenly, Kareena gets a blow when she learns that her best friend stole the love of her life (Salman Khan) right from under her nose.

The College Buddy kind

Dil Chahta Hai saw three college buddies have fun together, and enjoy quiet times on the beaches of Goa.

When college life ends and life takes over, the three friends go their separate ways, only to return when one of them needs it the most.

The I-Will-Die-For-You kind

Sholay celebrated the friendship of two con men Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra), as they roamed the streets of Ramgarh and sang Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge.

And to stick to his word, Jai lays his life for his best friend and dies in his arms, so that Veeru could have a happy ending.
