A look at the latest updates from the Malayalam film industry.

Mammootty

Mammootty's Sethurama Iyer is regarded as the Sherlock Holmes of Malayalam movies. The pleasant looking CBI officer, who has cracked some controversial cases in the much loved CBI Diary Kurippu series, is reportedly set to return next year.

Director K Madhu, who has directed the earlier movies, Oru CBI Diary Kurippu (1988), Jagratha (1989), Sethuramaiyer CBI (2004) and Nerariyan CBI (2005) is planning a fifth film, which will be scripted by S N Swami.

Sethurama Iyer has become a legend over the years and there are several stories about the origin of the character.

Apparently, the role first went to Mohanlal, who rejected it. Initially, the detective was a Muslim, but it was Mammootty who suggested giving him a makeover as a middle aged Brahmin who looks nothing like a conventional hero!

Mammootty, who impressed with a fabulous performance in Pathemari recently, has wrapped up Puthiya Niyamam and is currently shooting for White in London.
