The multiple Emmy Award-winning, American drama series Lost returns for a second season of action-packed adventure this week.

After Oceanic Air Flight 815 fell apart mid-air and crashed on a Pacific island, its survivors were forced to find a way to exist on what initially looked like a deserted island.

Those who survived -- 48 in all -- include a doctor (Jack), an escaped prisoner (Kate), a rock star turned heroin addict (Charlie), Iraqi military veteran (Sayid), and a very mysterious Locke.

But they discovered that the island holds many secrets, including the intense howls of a mysterious creature stalking the jungle, as well as a polar bear, a marooned and possibly crazy French woman, a mystical boar, a mysterious group known only as 'The Others,' a ship called The Black Rock and a hatch.

Here are the top things to look out for in the new season:

*The identity of the 'others' will finally be revealed.

*Jack's (Mathew Fox) mistrust of Locke will grow, as he continues to question his motives and obsession in uncovering the mysterious hatch.

*The fates of Sawyer, Michael and Jin will be revealed after their raft was blown out of the water by the 'others'. The last season ended with the threesome trying to escape from the island in a raft, but resulting in Michael's son Walt being kidnapped. Sun will become less dependent on husband Jin and more autonomous, as she wonders whether he is still alive.

The cast of Lost*Charlie will become even closer with Claire and her baby, Aaron. But the stash of drugs he found on a deserted plane in the island could seduce him back to a life of addiction.

*The cursed numbers that turned Hurley's life upside down before the plane crash will continue to haunt him as he begins to uncover their meaning.

*Shannon will decide where Sayid fits in her life while she continues to grieve over the death of her brother, Boone, and develops a growing sense of unease about their fate.

*Season 2 will introduce new members. Mr Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) joins the cast as a resident of the island whose story is one of the mysteries that will be explored as the season progresses. Plus, some previously unknown survivors of the crash of flight #815, who crashed in the tail section of the plane.

We will also meet Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez, Girlfight, The Fast And The Furious) --- the mysterious woman Jack met at the Sydney airport bar, Rose's husband Bernard (Sam Anderson) and Libby (Cynthia Watros).

The most mysterious, and perhaps most important of the new characters is Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick), who begins the second season inside the hatch, explaining to Jack, Locke and Kate the importance of the button before taking off into the woods.

Lost has been created by Jeffrey Lieber, JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof. Abrams recently directed the Tom Cruise-starrer Mission Impossible 3.

Lost will be telecast every Thursday at 9pm on Star Movies.
