Keep smiling, Jishnu!

March 26, 2016 09:22 IST

In one of his final posts, Jishnu explained how just a smile could can make a significant difference in life.

After battling cancer for almost two years, Malayalam actor Jishnu Raghavan passed away on March 25. He was 36. The maturity with which he took on his illness and spread positive messages from his hospital bed through the social media, makes him a real hero.

An engineering graduate from NIT Kozhikode, Jishnu was seen as a child artiste in Kilippaattu (1987), directed by his father Raghavan, a well known Malayalam actor himself.

Later, Jishnu was launched as a hero (along with Sidharth Bharathan) in Kamal’s Nammal in 2002. He did manage some success but decided to shift his attention to business after a while.

He made his comeback with Sidharth Bharathan’s Nidra in 2012.

"When I took the hiatus from movies, I was planning for a brief break but it stretched over to a couple of years. The interval has helped me make up my mind and realise that I want to make a career as an actor,” he had told me,when we met during the shooting of Nidra.

He did a few films after that but cancer affected his plans. He shared his experiences battling the disease and in one of his final posts, he explained how just a smile could can make a significant difference in life.

Here is what he wrote: 'Being positive and always smiling makes a lot of difference... I'm in I C U now, nothing to worry this is kind of my second home now. I have fun here.  I was sleeping when my doctor came for rounds. I woke up as soon as he came and gave him a bright smile. I felt like doing so as I kind of like the doctor he also has a huge smile always ...what he told me kept me thinking . he said it is so good to see a smiling patient. it gives energy to us to treat him better:. although I smile a lot, I started smiling at every situation now especially the nurses who take care of me .. trust me it made a lot of difference... they do a tough job of treating pain and in I C U things r worse but by smiling and being jovial creates such a good atmosphere that everything just gets better ... it's magic ... smile is magic .. try it . everyone knows but somehow we forget it . am I not right.. too much of advice but what I'm sharing is my experience.'

In another post, he wrote that he could see God and feel his love through so many people around him.

'I have gone through a lot but the support and love I get just keeps me going. I'm amazed at what is happening around me . tough times with alot of beauty in it .. I'm humbled by love around me... the best thing I can do is to spread love further. .. love is God . keep spreading love and happiness.'

As Dulquer Salmaan -- with whom Jishnu shared the screen in Ustad Hotel -- wrote, Jishnu smiled from the heart and his eyes were so honest.

Now that will keep Jishnu’s memories alive forever.
