Katrina's frock at Ajmer Sharif raises eyebrows

October 04, 2006 16:07 IST

Katrina Kaif's flaunting a frock while shooting for a film at the Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti's dargah in Ajmer has caused a flutter. Shooting has been stopped following a dispute.

The actress was shooting for Vipul Shah's Namaste London at the dargah, when a number of religious heads (ziyarins) objected to her dress. According to Nawab Hidayatullah of the dargah committee, prior permission from the minority department of the Union Social Welfare ministry is necessary for any shooting in the dargah premises. This was not done. Apparently, Katrina's cream-coloured frock rose above her knees and her legs were bare.

Rishi Kapoor was also part of the shoot, and a huge crowd had assembled for a glimpse of the stars. Anjuman secretary Saiyad Moin Chisti helped Katrina and Rishi perform a ziyarat at the dargah, but said he couldn't see Katrina's dress in the crowd. Leaders (or khadims) at the dargah say women must cover their heads, hands and legs while performing ziyarat.

The khadims were also upset as shooting continued even during the daily namaz. They have accused the film's crew of being loud and brash, adding that they misbehaved with other ziyarins at the dargah.
