May 19, 2003 17:32 IST

Sahara TeleviKarisma Kapoorsion today moved the Supreme Court, seeking to move the legal battle over the alleged copyright violation by their mega-serial Karishma: The Miracles Of Destiny back to the Calcutta high court.

New York-based novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford has filed a suit against the channel, claiming that the serial is an unauthorised copy of her popular novel, A Woman of Substance.

On May 14, the Supreme Court had restrained the television channel from airing the Rs 60 crore serial till it decided the special leave petition filed by Taylor, challenging the order of the Calcutta high court allowing telecast of the soap.

A vacation bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice Shivaraj V Patil, before whom Sahara filed its new application, said the matter would be heard on May 22.
