Kamal Haasan pays rich tribute to his late colleague.

The sudden demise of Malayalam actress Kalpana Ranjani in Hyderabad on January 25, has left Kamal Haasan shocked beyond words.

Haasan had the opportunity of working with Kalpana in Tamil blockbusters like Sathi Leelavathi and Pammal K Sambandam among others.

Expressing immense respect for his colleague, Haasan says, "Kalpana was one of three talented sisters. Her sisters Urvashi and Kalaranjini are chips of the old block.”

Fondly recalling his association with Kalpana and her sister, the south superstar says, "I have had the pleasure of acting with Urvashi and Kalpana. Both sisters have acted in many of my productions.

"As a matter of fact, I have had the pleasure of seeing them essaying the same role in two different language versions of the same film."

It is difficult for the Vishwaroopam actor to believe Kalpana is no more.

"I would be almost moved to tears when I would see an impeccable performer like her. You can understand how bereaved I am now that she won't perform anymore."

But then, Kamal comforts himself, "Thanks to the science of moving images and the replay button, we can at least relive her glorious innings as an actress."

The talented actor recalls the actress’ humility and talent.

"Kalpana's astounding talent and her unassuming demeanor were a study in contrast. To be so talented and yet so grounded requires a sensible head and a compassionate heart. Kalpana had both. I will miss her sorely. She will be missed by the Malayalam and Tamil film industry."
